This is a new submission of an old story. A few audio parts of the interviewer’s audio were re-recorded to improve the audio quality.
The Northwest Forest Plan was abandoned by the Bureau of Land Management in 2016. Since then, plots of forests that previously would have been considered old-growth have been marked for timber sales. The environmental conservation organization Cascadia Wildlands believes this is a misrepresentation of the forests, and illegal. One such sale, the Blue and Gold Timber Sale, would clear-cut a large swath of healthy old-growth south of Eugene. Cascadia Wildlands’ Legal Director Nick Cady is suing to stop it, and tells us why these old forests are so important to protect.
